BC Ferries, Environmental Awareness Tutorial
The Client
BC Ferries (BCF) is one of the largest ferry operators in the world, providing service on 25 routes to 47 terminals with a fleet of 37 vessels. BC Ferries is an essential transportation link that connects coastal communities and facilitates the movement of people, goods and services.
The Learning Need: BC Ferries approached Knowledge Solutions to develop a custom eLearning tutorial focused on teaching Environmental Awareness to ship and shore-based employees. The Environment Sustainability Group at BC Ferries had a clear vision for this project which was to help employees understand their responsibilities for environmental stewardship; and, to support continuous improvement of environmental performance at BC Ferries.
BC Ferries had spent significant effort gathering subject matter for the tutorial, but needed assistance bringing their vision to life via an online solution that could be hosted in their Oracle LMS.
The Solution
Knowledge Solutions worked closely with the client and their existing subject matter to create a custom 60-minute “Environmental Awareness” tutorial built in Articulate Storyline 360. The tutorial includes 9 modules of content that the learner explores sequentially and his/her knowledge is tested via scored and tracked module assessments. A significant challenge of the tutorial was to present the content in a visually appealing manner which did not overwhelm the learner. The learner progresses through a sequential path that provides the most critical content along with an opportunity to explore additional content and resources as his/her time and interest permits.
